The second you discover your device has been dropped in water, suspect it may have been water damaged or believe it may get water damaged due to a spill, you must power off the device as soon as possible while also removing the device from the liquid as soon as possible. Wipe off as much excess liquid as possible and dry it as best as you can taking care over any exposed electrical components.
Under no circumstances should you power on the device, plug it in or charge it. At this current time, any liquid on the inside of the device is currently working to corrode the internals. Note that it isn't exactly the water doing the damage but rather the impurities within it. Different liquids will work at different speeds also. Powering on the device will accelerate this process if the liquid itself does not short out any components first causing further damage.
There is a myth out there about putting your device in rice, don't bother this does nothing and it's quicker just to leave it out on the side to dry out instead.
Once you have done all of this, again even if you think you have left it to dry for long enough, it is not worth the risk to test. Most manufacturers will not cover for water damage, so assuming this is not covered by your warranty, we can then take a look.
We will open the device to inspect for any possible damage and give all the components a clean and then dry the device. In this method we will have removed all the impurities that cause damage and the device can then be dried out. After which we will then test the device to confirm the issue is fixed.
However, it is possible that the device may develop further issues after this fix. At this point we can take another look to see if it is repairable.
In many cases, water damaged devices are the worst damage electrical devices can experience and unfortunately are not always repairable. When a device is water damaged and we take a look to repair it, we ask for a fee to cover materials used in the attempt. You can see the current price of this fee on our Services page. This payment will cover any quote fee we usually charge also.
This means that when you have a device that is water damaged and you send it to us to repair, you pay the inital water damage fee regardless of the outcome. Any other issues found after the initial water damage has been repaired will be quoted. You may decline the offer however, but note that any issues after the device has been cleaned, dried and powered on will not be part of the repair and we cannot be held accountable for any issues found after as we cannot confirm if that issue existed before the water damage occurred.
If you are not local to the Swindon area, we suggest you follow the above steps and take it to your nearest local repair shop as soon as possible.
