It has been recently discovered that Xbox Series X and S hard drives are currently locked to their original system.
To try and save you all the jargon babble, the hard drives in the new Xboxes cannot be simply swapped in and out of consoles like older consoles. All is not entirely lost just yet however as there is a small light of hope. Hard drives can be swapped under very specific circumstances.
Firstly, the replacement drive must be the same type currently being used and the only best place to get these are from other consoles as they are custom made. As a result this increases the price of the drives quite dramatically and can be extremely difficult to come by.
The second circumstance is that the original drive must be readable enough to be cloned. This presents and extremely challenging issue if the original drive is dead or unreadable as it contains specific data to the console itself.
We fully expect this to change at some point in the future, either through official channels such as Microsoft releasing an update whether that would be under their own free will or government pressure due to the legality of the issue. There may also be the possibility that someone out there finds a way around these issues and we are able to easily implement them once released.
As always, when we find out more details we will let you know further.
